Getting Started

These are the answers to the most common questions that our members ask us about "Getting Started". If your question is not answered above, you can contact our support team by clicking here.

How do I register?

  1. Log onto the OPGS Alumni web site www.opgs.net.
  2. Click on the link which says ‘New Members Signup ->’ in the ‘Members’ area’ box in the top left corner.
  3. Fill in all the login details; read our terms and conditions; and click on the ‘Continue’ button.
  4. Fill in the required (marked with ‘*’) profile details plus any further personal notes or messages you may wish; and click on the ‘Continue’ button.
  5. Alter your ‘Privacy Preferences’ as you wish, and click on the ‘Finish’ button.
  6. You will receive an email to verify you are accepted onto OPGS.net once we have checked your registration details.
  7. Once you have received the verification email, you are registered, and may use the site to the full.

Why do you need my email address?

Your email address may be our only way of contacting you.

It is important that you register your email address correctly as any emails that are sent to you through the site will be delivered here. It is also important that you check any junk mail filters that you have so that your email account accepts unknown emails otherwise emails from your old friends may be automatically deleted by your email host before you read them.

Please also make sure that if you change your email address, you update this within the ‘Change settings’ section in the blue box in the top left corner.

Please be assured that we will not divulge your email address to any third party. When old friends send you an email through the site, they do so by clicking on the envelope icon next to your name. Your email address will only be shown to them if you choose to tell them it.

Note that you can choose to show your email address to other list members if you have selected to 'Show my email address' from your settings.

I have registered, but I have not received a validation email…

A validation email is sent out, once we have checked your details, to the email address that you have registered with us. If you have not yet received this email, then the most likely reason is that you have not provided us with the correct e-mail address. Please take care when registering, and ensure your email address is correct.

If you are still having trouble, then send us your details, including your name, registered email address, and the year that you left by clicking here.

What is the ‘Browse listings’ area?

In this area, you will be able to browse through the entire members list in various ways. The default for this area is your own year.

You can select which year you want to list; the list can be extended to spread over 5 years (2 years on each side of the selected year); or extended to all years. Any chosen list can be sorted with respect to year, first name, last name, location, or occupation.

What is the ‘Search members’ area?

In this area, you will be able to locate the details of any person registered with the site by names, locations, and occupations.

You can search across all years or a specific year chosen by you.

Our results list will show the matches to your search in chronological order with the student leaving most recently showing last on the list.

You can resort this list by clicking on the column headings.

What is the ‘Update my listing’ section?

In this section, you can update your profile details; that is, personal details shown to the other OPGS.net members, details for the School only, and general messages to friends and other members.

Your new data will not appear in the list immediately. Once the new data has been reviewed and approved by the School, your updated data will appear in the list automatically.

What is the ‘Change settings’ section?

In this section, you are able to change the email address you are registered under, change your password, and make alterations to your privacy preferences.

All changes will have immediate effect.

I have forgotten my user name/password…

If you have forgotten your user name or password, then click here to get your login details sent to you at your registered email address.

My email address has changed; do I need to register again?

No, you can change your email address at any time without having to register again.

Click here or go to 'Change settings' to update your email address on your list entry.

Why has my friend not replied to my email?

Any email that you write will be sent to the email address that your friend has registered with us.

It is possible that they have changed their email address and forgotten to update their details on the site.

This is our only way of contacting our members, but it is always worth trying again from time to time in case they decide to update their email address within their OPGS.net registration details.

It is also possible that either you or your friend have the junk mail filter in your email account set to high, which will automatically delete any unrecognised emails, including any confirmations of your sent emails, new contacts or newsletters from OPGS.net.

(If you would like to correct this on your own account, you can amend the junk mail filter to a medium level and test if this has resolved the issue by sending yourself a contact email through the site).

Finally, they may only check their email account from time to time and have not got around to reading your email as yet.

How do I remove my name from the site?

If you want remove your name from the site, you will have to send a request to membership@opgs.net.

Once your name is removed from the site, you will no longer have access to the members’ area of opgs.net.
